Mary Reece
District Conservationist
Twin Platte NRD
1987 -- Graduate of the University of Nebraska, Lincoln (UNL) with a
Bachelor of Science Degree in Agricultural Education and Agronomy - Range and
Forage Management.
I worked as a Student Trainee in Pierce, Butte, Loup City, and Mullen. I worked
as a Range Conservationist in Mullen and Imperial. I began my District
Conservationist position in Pasco, Washington in 1990. I returned to Nebraska in
November, 1992, as the District Conservationist in North Platte.
A staff of Range Specialists, Soil Conservationists, Technicians, a Soil
Scientist, a Civil Engineer, and Secretaries from North Platte and Ogallala, and
myself are responsible for conservation efforts in Arthur, Keith, McPherson,
Lincoln, and Logan Counties (3.7 million acres).
Primary programs and services
The primary programs are the USDA Conservation Programs, we have listed below
the programs most utilized:
- Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP)
- Grazing Lands Conservation Program
- Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program (WHIP)
- Wetland Reserve Program (WRP)
- Conservation Plant Materials
- Conservation Reserve Program (CRP)
State and Local Programs are listed below:
- Nebraska Soil and Water Conservation Program (NWSCP)
- Corners for Wildlife Program
- Local NRD Programs for well abandonment, irrigation flow meters, soil
testing, etc.
- Wildlife Habitat Improvement Program w/ NRD's and NGPC
