Middle Republican Watershed

Watershed Description

The Middle Republican CSP watershed area is located in south central Nebraska and north central Kansas.  This area is not the same as the Middle Republican NRD.  The Middle Republican CSP watershed area covers the following counties of Nebraska - Franklin, Harlan, Kearney, Nuckolls, Phelps, and Webster and the counties of Jewell, Phillips, Smith, and Republic in Kansas.  The total surface acres of the entire watershed are 1,399,835 acres with 961,514 acres in Nebraska and 435,321 acres in Kansas.

Land uses in this watershed consist of irrigated cropland, dryland cropland, and pastureland.  The Middle Republican Watershed area consists mainly of soils that have formed in silty loess on uplands.  Slopes are very gently sloping to steep and slope to the south towards the Republican River Valley.  Upland areas contain loamy and silty soils and are also very gently sloping to steep.    

Soils within this watershed consist mainly of silty soils on loess uplands with loamy soils found south of the Republican River Valley.  Soils in the upland areas are well drained to moderately well drained soils.
