This watershed is located in Clay, Fillmore, Gage, Jefferson, and Saline Counties in southeast Nebraska. There are 756 farms in the watershed with an average size of 590 acres. The land uses in this watershed consist of dry cropland, irrigated cropland, and pastureland. Irrigation occurs where sufficient ground water is found. It is located in the Central Loess Plains resource area. The topography ranges from level to depressional in the west ot nearly level to rolling loess capped ridges in the central and sloping to steep hills in the southeast. The soils were formed in Loveland and Peorian loess deposits on the uplands, alluvial deposits on stream bottoms and exposed glacial till on side slopes. The soils range from deep silt loams, to silty clay loams to clay loams. Cropland in the watershed totals 392,600 acres. Primary crops include corn, soybeans, grain soughum, wheat, and alfalfa. Other crops include forage soughum, tame hay, and oats. Hogs and cattle are the main livestock. Pastureland and rangeland in the watershed totals 48,400 acres. Natural vegetation is tall grass prairie on the uplands with forested areas along the major streams. Most improved pasture in the watershed is smooth bromegrass. There are some pastures with switchgrass and big bluestem. Native prairie is preserved in small isolated patches. Land Cover/Use
