USDA Announces funding for Several Natural Resources Conservation Initiatives.

The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service is currently accepting applications for several special initiatives promoting organic agriculture, energy conservation, and water quality and quantity measures. Funding is available for the following special initiatives: On-Farm Energy Initiative, Seasonal High Tunnel Initiative, Organic Initiative, Ogallala Aquifer Initiative, and the Agricultural Water Enhancement Program Initiative (AWEP).

Farming after the Flood Resources Available

“Farming after the Flood – Farmer Perspectives and Agency Resources” webinar was held December 14.  If you missed this live broadcast, you can still access this information featuring information for those affected by the 2011 Missouri River flood. The webinar featured two producers in the process of repairing their farmland and representatives from key USDA agencies and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers who are working with producers whose farmland sustained flood damage. Nebraska Begins Revising Nutrient Management Standard After National Update

Local nutrient management specialists with the USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) will be working for the next several months to update Nebraska’s nutrient management standard (or 590 standard) after Secretary Tom Vilsack announced USDA’s revised national standard. USDA updates this conservation practice standard at least every five years to reflect the latest technologies and agency objectives.
